I’ve started painting again.
To relive stress and to take my mind off the madness of present times.
It is also another form of expression.

Back in 2010 it was a moment when I did not have a steady job and was dreaming about the future.
I started painting and one artwork made was a shadow holding a bird with a flame in the foreground.
I didn’t know what I painted but it foreshadowded a time of chaos.

My grandmother died, father became fatally ill and found myself in a whirlwind of change.
Could these new paintngs mean the dawn if a new era?

It will need to be something different and exciting.

I have explored the many formats of art and personalized it.
What they have thought me is the lesson to be patient and open.

When the time comes I’ll be ready.

50 years ago today humanity stepped foot on the moon.
It captured the imagination and proved the impossible is possible.

50 years before 1969 we were just learning how to fly.
Taming the mechanical beasts.

We all know the drive was military superiority.
The industrial complex hyped by the Cold War.
Quite sad to think that blood lust was behind many historical accomplishments.

I think about the years of complex work NASA made to get it right.
The cold calculated minds guided by luck and determination.
So many things had to be right.

The unknowns outweighed the known.
Floating to the farthest plains of existence.
Staring into the abyss of the dark, cold and expansive space.

These men evolved into heroes.
Gods to some and fakes to others.
To me they became beyond human.

They made their mark but it took a toll.
Some turned to drink and others to isolation as the thought of what they witnessed was too much to comprehend.
It is something to marvel.
Something to be warned.
But most importantly I think what will be next.

As mentioned in my January post this year has been dedicated for family and personal endeavours.
2019 is to focus on establishing the foundations for my family with the goal of becoming self-sufficient in the years ahead.
I know that this objective will be achieved but it is taking a toll.

My daily job and weekend visits to my ill mother slipping away before me is draining me to the point where everything around me is dull.
I come home exhausted and find myself irritated, uncommunicative and unable to enjoy the simple things.
The lustre of simple things have shined away.
The desire to explore diminished.
The smiles are masked by a growing shadow of blues.

These are the facts of life many would say and to overcome these things is to look deep inwards and to recapture the light.
However, you can never recapture the light as it has changed. Life has changed. The reality around me changed.
I need to create a new light but how?

The light needs to be creative and technical.
It needs to be one that will inspire.

I don’t have time though to really think.
To go deep into my mind and to unwind and decompress.
A simple walk or mediation is not working.
This is very strange indeed.

The tiger mother keeps her daughter close
Away from the beasts
Hidden from danger
Safe from reality

One day she will do the same
Many years from now

Today is my father’s birthday.
He would have been 83.
He passed away in 2011 and the world moved on but his blue eyes still shines on in my mind.

There are moments now when I look at my daughter’s eyes and see pieces of him.
I imagine her seeing me like I saw my father all those years ago.

I think about his personality, flaws and uniqueness.
I think about the things he told me.
I think about what Nina will remember about me?

The burning desire to have that fatherly figure.
The absence is creating a void of isolation.
I really wish he could be here now.

I have been emotionally moved by the art of 19th century painter George Inness
His painting ‘Moonrise’ has an quality of surreal introspective melancholy.

I feel a connection to he man portrayed as it shows a moment of transition.
He is alone but reflective.
Dependant on the boat to stay afloat but guided by the tide.
He is surrounded by elements outside his control.

There are so many beautiful paintings from other painters that have evoked the same feeling.
It could stem from my fear of time passing by, inability to retain youth or being unable to go back to where you began.
These contemplative thoughts are overwhelming.
